Jurgen Klopp has joked that Christian Benteke was sold to Crystal Palace because he broke the Liverpool manager's glasses while celebrating a goal against Norwich City.

The German had his spectacles smashed following Adam Lallana's winner in a remarkable 5-4 victory away to Norwich last season.

Benteke left Anfield for Selhurst Park in August, having failed to feature regularly for Klopp's side.

Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, the former Borussia Dortmund coach siad he Benteke because he forced his visit to the optician.

"They were absolutely broken! In the picture I have them in my hands," he said of his crushed eyewear. "It was Christian Benteke who did it. So don't kill my glasses or otherwise you will be sold!"
